This session will look at current and future technology and business disruptors that will impact the creation, management, distribution and consumption of content. The primary focus will be on the publishing and television segments with an examination of such trends as screen-based reading, new content consumption devices, social publishing platforms and social TV.

 

About the speaker: Allen Weiner

 

Mr. Weiner has more than 30 years of experience as an analyst, writer, editor, publisher and broadcaster. He has written about media trends in daily newspapers and magazines since 1976. Weiner began his career in research serving as a chief analyst and architect of Gartner Dataquest’s Internet/E-Commerce/E-media cover from 1994 to 1999. After being part of a successful start-up, he re-joined the company in August 2003 as research vice president in the company’s G2 group. Beyond his work at Gartner, Mr. Weiner is an avid, well-known video blogger and blogger.

 

Previous to his experience at Gartner Dataquest, in 1993, Mr. Weiner was general manager of new media for the San Francisco Chronicle & Examiner. While in this position, Mr. Weiner built and managed the first daily newspaper site on the Web, The Gate. Before that, from 1989 to 1993, Mr. Weiner headed the technology group at a B2B publishing company, Virgo Publishing, based in Scottsdale, Arizona. From 1978-1989, Mr. Weiner was a newspaper reporter, columnist and project manager for a number of innovative new media projects.
