Event Info

Prof Yves Bréchet holds the Chair of Technological Innovation at College de France. In 2012 Yves was appointed as the High Commissioner for Atomic Energy by the Council of Ministers of the French Republic. In this position he is the scientific advisor to the French Government on all issues related to energy, physical and life sciences. Within the French Alternative and Atomic Energy Commission he advises the Chairman/CEO and is the guarantor of the scientific quality of R&D performed. He has held in the past numerous consulting positions in the French industry and served in the National Assessment Committee for Radioactive Wastes.

Yves graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and holds a PhD in Materials physics. His works deal with micro structural changes in metals and alloys, the relationships between the microstructures/ properties and best choice of materials and processes. He has analyzed how to link the architectures of natural materials to tailor made materials by associating multiple materials and geometries and go beyond the classical domain of materials.

At College de France, the rule that applies to all Professors is to deliver a new course every year, open to anyone. A typical course consists of a public lecture followed by 8 lectures. It is also the rule to give the course at some foreign University. All these lectures are usually outstanding and have kept alive the international prestige of the almost 600 years old College de France.
