WILD SEAS, SECRET SHORES

Talk summary:

Thomas P. Peschak is a National Geographic magazine contributing photographer and Director of Conservation for the Save our Seas Foundation. Outdoor Photography magazine has named him one of the 40 most influential nature/environmental photographers in the world. Trained as a marine biologist, Thomas specialised in kelp forest ecology and the impact of illegal fishing. He retired from active science in 2004 to become an environmental photojournalist after he recognized that he could have a greater conservation impact with photographs than statistics. When not traveling the world on assignment, he calls Cape Town in South Africa home. Thomas has written and photographed five books: Currents of Contrast, Great White Shark, Wild Seas Secret Shores, Lost World, and Sharks and People.

From humpback whales off the coast of Canada to South African great white sharks, come hear Thomas about his amazing world tour of marine biology.

To Thomas, sharks aren’t a reason to get out of the water. They’re a reason to get in. Following his lifelong obsession, he’s found himself paddling kayaks alongside great white sharks in South Africa, swimming among hundreds of one-ton manta rays in the Maldives, and keeping pace with massive whale sharks in the Arabian Sea. In this talk, the marine biologist–turned–National Geographic Photographer takes audiences around the world with his award-winning images and his engaging take on the ocean’s charismatic creatures.
