Event Info

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time.

While scientists are racing to find solutions to climate change, and storytellers are trying to communicate the gravity of the situation, a dichotomy still exists between the two that needs to be bridged in order to make a positive change in the world.

In this interdisciplinary talk, Prasenjeet Yadav will share how he combines his skills in both science and communication to raise public awareness around climate change and conservation-related issues. Prasenjeet will explain how and why he funded “Shoot for Science”, an initiative to train scientists in science communication.

About Prasenjeet Yadav:

National Geographic Explorer and science communicator Prasenjeet Yadav was exposed to nature at a very early age, and much of his childhood was spent exploring the forests near a rural village in central India. Prasenjeet holds a master’s degree in molecular ecology and has pursued research at the National Centre for Biological Sciences in Bangalore, India, but realised early in his scientific career that his real passion was in storytelling. Now, he combines his experience in research with his photography skills to popularize ecological and conservation sciences.

Prasenjeet is one of the very few photographers who integrates science deeply into his photo stories. He chooses ignored subjects, landscapes, and species and finds ways to develop engaging and accessible photos. For every story, he collaborates with researchers, managers, policy makers as well as conservationists. Along with the larger features, he also produces stories that are directed at specific audiences who have the power to create lasting change.
