International trade is at the heart of the global economy and is responsible for much of the development and prosperity of the modern industrialized world. Global trade in goods is c.US$18trillion and the growth in global trade over the last 20 years has outstripped the world GDP. Singapore is home to most of the world’s largest commodity trading companies and is the global and Asian hub for many commodities products across the three key clusters of Energy & Chemicals, Metals & Minerals, and Agri-commodities. Singapore’s total offshore trade turnover of c.US$1.4trillion is about 7% of total value of global trade in goods.
