MATLAB for data analysis in neuroscience:

In this talk, Vanja will explain the research method she has developed and share her experience in using MATLAB to analyse and represent data in neuroscience.

She will use her research data as an example to explain her progress from using freely available open-source MATLAB codes to writing and optimising her own MATLAB codes.

About the speaker :

Vanja Cnops, PhD, School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University

Vanja is developing a method to identify the cells in the brain that are responsible for knowing our location in the environment, the ‘GPS-cells’ of the brain.  Using electrodes implanted in the brain of mice, she records neuronal activity when a mouse is exploring the environment. This generates large sets of data, which can be analysed in MATLAB.

Vanja is also an avid runner. In between studying neurons and lab work, she finds the time to do trail and cross-country running and also competes in marathons held in Singapore and around the world
