Synopsis

It is the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The passion or hype toward AI has started in the technical community by the emergence of deep learning for ImageNet, and late fanned out to the general public with the release of AlphaGo by Google. The latter beat the world best players in the computationally intractable board game. As a result of this hype, new AI start-ups are sprouting from nowhere every day.

In this talk, as an amateur AI researcher, Dr. Wen will share his experience in conducting application-driven AI research. His experience shaped how he views and creates AI start-ups. In particular, he has developed a framework, called PRADA, to guide himself to build two AI start-ups at NTU. PRADA stands for Platform, Researchers, Algorithms, Data and Applications. Each of these components plays a crucial role in establishing an AI start-up and founders must develop their own sources to secure these building blocks in order to build a successful AI start-up.
