Event Info From Mythology to Artificial IntelligenceAs part of our "Did You Know" Monthly Talk Series at Nanyang Technological University, we have Professor Nadia Thalmann, Director of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Media Innovation, to speak on the above-mentioned topic.SYNOPSIS: Fascination for automation is neither new nor modern. From the ancient Greek tale of Talos, a ten-meter giant bronze automaton, to the emergence of automaton museums across Europe in the 19th century - living side by side with automated, mechanical beings is one of mankind’s oldest dreams. Automated work drastically revolutionised the way we work, and the world we live in. Notions of social and emotional intelligence in the 1980s and 1990s paved the way for new developments in computer science. Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used in almost every computer programme. Humanoid social robots, like Nadine, developed by Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), will be built upon all kinds of AI, including the simulation of emotions and behaviours. These social robots will collaborate in many tasks in the future such as helping the elderly at home and being a receptionist at the workplace. The future is wide open and full of fantastic innovations. You may refer to http://www.ntu.edu.sg/lceo/Pages/MonthlyTalkSeries.aspx for more information on the talk and bus services. Please include a valid email address to receive updates on the event.Registration for this event has closed. |
