Event Info

Aim:

This workshop will provide guidance on how to maximise the value to non-academic employers of the key skills and attributes developed through postgraduate study.

Content:

Non-academic employers look for a wide range of transferable skills in their potential employees. Many of these essential skills and attributes are indeed developed during the course of a postgraduate degree. However, it is not always obvious to researchers what these skills are, nor is it easy to convey the value of research degree experience to demanding non-academic employers. This workshop will equip participants to bridge the ‘communication gap’ which may exist between the academic and non-academic world. There will be discussion of the skills and attributes developed during postgraduate study and of how to ‘translate’ their value to maximise success in recruitment to non-academic careers.

Outcomes:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be more informed about their skills development through postgraduate study. They will be more effective in identifying, articulating the value of and applying their skills in non-academic future careers.
