Event Info

Aim:

This workshop will provide guidance on how to maximise the value of your PhD experience for a future academic career.

Content:

There is intense competition for academic careers. Academic employers look for a wide range of experience, achievements, skills and attributes in their potential employees. This workshop raises the awareness of postgraduate students of how to best prepare for an academic career and how to get the most from the opportunities presented during the PhD. Participants will reflect upon their current level of preparation and be enabled to carry out informed action-planning to address any potential gaps. There will also be a brief discussion of non-academic career alternatives.

Outcomes:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be more informed about their current skills, strengths and weaknesses relative to academic career options. They will be able to develop action plans designed to strengthen their position in the academic job market.
