Aim:

This workshop will develop understanding of creativity and the skills of creative thinking. It will be particularly useful for students from a technical or scientific background.

Content:

Creativity is generally regarded as anything that is both novel and useful. So creative thinking is the process of coming up with ideas and approaches to new or existing problems which yield both novel and useful progress, solutions or results. Creativity is prized as the foundation for innovation. This workshop will explore creative thinking, especially as it applies in the PhD and in technical careers. Participants will engage in exercises to explore a range of creativity tools. Common blocks to creativity, both self-imposed and environmental, will be exposed and addressed.

Outcomes:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will have greater awareness of creative thinking and experience of using a range of creativity tools. They will have a better understanding of how to maximise their own creativity.
