Event Info

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine is launching the inaugural James Best Distinguished Lecture series on 19 March 2022, supported by the LKCMedicine 10th Anniversary (2020) Distinguished Visitor programme.

The series, to be held twice a year, feature eminent professors who are global leaders in their respective fields. The first kicks off this March with Professor James Best himself, visiting professor and former Dean of LKCMedicine with his lecture topic ‘Preserving the Art and Furthering the Science of Medicine’.

Synopsis:
Medical Schools as agents of influence for the future of medicine
At the dawn of the fourth industrial revolution, what role will medical schools play in the future of medicine? Producing doctors for this new age presumes we know how medicine will be practised in the future. But is this possible assuming a 50-year working career? At the same time, can medical schools influence the future of medicine through research and their legions of new graduates? Do we have the right structure within universities or should there be a revolution as occurred in the US just over 100 years ago? What should the mission of medical schools be in the current and future era?

The event brings together thought leaders and industry experts to address thought-provoking issues in medicine with the perspective of fostering dialogue and advancing discourse in the transformation of medicine, medical education, and research.
