Title NLP tasks in Tamil Language – Part 2: Emotion Detection and Tone Analysis
Summary Natural language processing techniques have largely been used for the English language, but there are limited works for the Tamil language. Starting with the pre-processing of text, followed by feature extraction and model application, model development requires special considerations based on the nature of the language. This project will be split into several parts, with each student focusing on a different NLP downstream task that could involve multiple models and hyperparameter tuning. The students will finally work together and combine their respective segments into a toolkit that could be useful for Tamil language learners. Part 2 focuses on detecting emotions (e.g., happiness, sadness, anger) and analyzing tone (e.g., sarcasm, positivity, or negativity) in Tamil text and speech inputs.
