Title | Development of an energy-saving LED lighting system |
Summary | In a conventional lighting system, a light source can be merely switched on/off manually. A clear disadvantage of a conventional lighting system is that it does not save energy because it lacks the automatic and flexible control and management of light sources at home or in public areas. LED has been widely used in lighting systems due to its advantage of energy saving. To further save energy, a smart LED lighting control system is required. In this project, a portable prototype of energy-saving LED lighting system is designed with the following features: 1) The system has the capability of continuous human tracking using sensors such as motion sensors or infrared sensors. 2) The system is able to switch on/off or dim the LED light sources depending on presence of human and ambient light intensity. A portable prototype (including LED light sources, sensors, and control unit) powered by batteries only will be fabricated for demonstration. |
