Title Optimal Data Center Capacity Planning & Network Modelling for Hokkaido, Japan
Summary PLEXOS is a simulation software that provides analytics and decision support to energy studies. It is widely used in various energy companies to design and evaluate sizing of Generators, Battery Energy System, Data Center and optimize power system operation.

The scope of the FYP project includes the following:
Literature research on Hokkaido’s electricity grid and data center capacity opportunity ( example sources: Japan Electric Power Information Center, METI, OCCTO, etc.)
- Develop a good understanding of Japan’s energy market.
- Utilize PLEXOS modeling skills efficiently and effectively
- Training and technical support provided by Energy Exemplar’s Energy Market Analysts

Project Deliverables:
- Identify new Data Center investment opportunity in Hokkaido considering load demand, transmission congestion and future energy availability
- Implement renewable energy targets to help reduce the carbon footprint
- Present results of various simulation runs/studies in a final report.

Students with a strong background in power engineering are encouraged to apply. This is an ISP-FYP; hence the student will work closely with Energy Exemplar’s technical team
