Title Fibre laser operating with a higher-order mode
Summary A few-moded fibre supports not only a fundamental mode, but higher-order modes. Compared to a fundamental mode, a higher-order mode offers a larger beam area that helps carry more energetic laser beam. However, selecting of a desired higher-order mode is challenging, and largely determined by a design of a few-moded fibre. This project will investigate few-moded fibres designed for facilitating higher-order mode selection and its efficient laser operation. Hence, a student will theoretically design various few moded fibres and apply the designs in laser simulations to study laser efficiency.
