Title Down-conversion visible fibre lasers
Summary Current approaches to realizing fibre lasers at visible wavelengths rely on nonlinear processes which are fragile, not efficient or involve delicate free space alignment with a nonlinear crystal. As laser diodes such as GaN become powerful at UV region, it is interesting to explore feasibility of down-conversion visible fibre lasers analogous to the technology of high power fibre lasers at near IR.
This project will identify possible energy transitions of laser dopants in a silica fibre and simulate optical gain with realistic parameters. This project will involve intensive literature review and simulation. Students with a background on optical fibres and lasers or experiences on numerical analysis are preferred.
