| Summary | The financial sector has hired many analysts, strategists and fund managers to do one thing: beat the market. Analysts are to find undervalued stock, strategists are to predict the direction of the market and various sectors, and fund managers are to put all together to outperform their benchmark. A fundamental analyst believes that by analysing company strategy, management, product, financial statistics and other quantifiable numbers will help to choose stocks that will outperform the market. A technical analyst believes that the chart, volume, momentum, and an array of technical indicators hold the keys to superior performance. The student will be researching into the use of fundamental analysis (FA), news analysis (NA) and technical analysis (TA) in stock picking and trading, and investigate the effectiveness of FA+NA+TA in creating alpha (beating the market). The student has the flexibility (totally optional) to employ machine learning to predict stock price and combine with technical indicators and news effects to facilitate trading and portfolio allocation decisions. This project will definitely be rewarding to those who have strong interests in stock investing. |
