Title Simulation of copper zinc tin sulfide thin film solar cells
Summary Thin film solar cells are well suited for building integrated photovoltaics and they will be a key component in 'net zero' energy buildings. The present thin film solar cells namely CdTe and CIGSSe are however not made of earth abundant semiconductors and will not be scalable in the long run. Thus there is a need to develop alternative high efficiency, stable and affordable thin film solar cells. The copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS) semiconductors with the kesterite structure is a possible alternative. In this project, the student will need to first gather the optical absorption data for CZTS semiconductor and simulate the photovoltaic characteristic of a ZnO/CdS/CZTS/Mo/ITO solar cell using the ADEPT solar cell simulator in nanohub.org. The simulated current voltage characteristic and the extracted parameters will be compared with experimental data obtained previously.
