Title | Prediction of air quality index for Bangkok city by machine learning techniques |
Summary | The capital city of Thailand is one of the most polluted cities in Southeast Asia due to high population density, tall buildings, vehicle emissions and burning of agriculture waste. The polluted air causes respiratory diseases and school closures. In this project, the student will make use of the datasets in the World Air Quality Historical Database to first perform a data analysis of the air quality index (AQI) in the past 20 years. Correlation matrix analysis will be performed to determine the which features in the dataset are most relevant for AQI prediction. Next the student will need to select several machine learning algorithms and perform supervised learning by dividing the dataset into training and test set. In the third stage of the project, the trained algorithms will be used for prediction of the AQI of Bangkok using the AQI of the previous few days. The effectiveness of the different machine learning algorithms will be compared using quantitative metrics. In the literature review, the student will also need to find out other approaches used for predicting the AQI in urban areas. |
