Title Ultrasound Power Transfer for Implantable Medical Device
Summary Ultrasound is an emerging imaging modality widely used in distance ranging and biomedical imaging applications. Recently, there is also interest to explore ultrasound-based energy transfer for implantable medical device. Compared to the conventional electromagnetic wave power transfer, ultrasound has the unique advantage that it is safer with less interaction with tissue and minimum heating effect. Hence ultrasound is a promising candidate for power transfer.

In this project, students will explore the design of power receiver circuit for ultrasound wireless power transfer. The focus is the rectifier circuit that converts the AC output from ultrasound transducer to DC voltage. The proposed research consists of the following two major tasks. (1) System level analysis of passive and active rectifier circuits on conversion efficiency. (2) Circuit parameters optimization for different frequency bands and loading conditions. The circuit design will be performed in LTSPICE using off-the-shelf electronic components.
