Title | Experiment on a Low-cost ANC system in an enclosed environment |
Summary | This project, aimed at addressing the pressing issue of construction noise in Singapore, is a strategic initiative aligned with the National Environmental Agency's efforts to mitigate environmental noise pollution. With the nation witnessing an unprecedented surge in construction activities, from new infrastructure projects to extensive renovation works, the need for effective noise control solutions has never been more critical. This project offers a hands-on opportunity for a student to make a tangible impact in this area, starting with an existing system designed for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The student's journey will begin with familiarization with the provided ANC system, which includes both code and hardware components. The initial phase will involve understanding the intricacies of the system's design and operation, including the principles behind noise cancellation technology. The student will then be challenged to fine-tune and optimize the system, improving its performance in mitigating construction noise, both in simulated environments and against real-world noise sources. The scope of the project extends beyond mere optimization of existing technology. The student will have the opportunity to evolve the current prototype into a fully operational system capable of deployment in actual construction sites. This involves not only enhancing the ANC's effectiveness but also ensuring its practicality and durability in the demanding conditions of a construction environment. The project aims to achieve a level of noise cancellation that significantly reduces the auditory impact of construction activities on surrounding communities, contributing to a quieter, more peaceful urban soundscape. Mastering the ANC technology will require a hands-on approach, with the student expected to delve into coding, algorithm refinement, and hardware implementation. This project is distinct from traditional academic learning; it emphasizes practical experience and problem-solving skills over theoretical knowledge. Success in this endeavor will depend on the student's ability to learn through doing, adapting to challenges, and innovating solutions. We are seeking a motivated and independent student who is ready to embrace the challenges of this project. The ideal candidate will have a passion for environmental technology and a commitment to making a difference in the community. This Final Year Project (FYP) is not just an academic exercise; it is an opportunity to contribute to a national effort to enhance the quality of life in Singapore through technological innovation. This project represents a unique intersection of environmental science, engineering, and public policy, offering the student a chance to gain valuable experience in a field of growing importance. By successfully implementing an effective ANC system in a real-world setting, the student will not only achieve academic success but also play a role in Singapore's journey towards a more sustainable and livable future. |
