Title Rule-based Optimization for Maritime Navigation
Summary Ship autonomous navigation on the open sea involving real-time path planning and collision avoidance is still one of the essential problems to ensure the Ship’s safe and efficient navigation. Especially in a congested and uncertain marine traffic environment, not only will static obstacles be taken into account but other target vessels in motion should also be considered. Conventional navigation techniques have mainly relied on a global information approach, wherein pre-built environment maps are used to construct a path from a given start to a destination. In this project, student will be required to investigate some rule-based algorithms such as A-star algorithm and DWA algorithm to let the ship avoid static obstacles and reach its destination without trapping in local optimization. Besides, it also requires simulate sea traffic environment for the ship global path planning.
