Title Monte Carlo Simulation and Importance Sampling for Digital Communications (B)
Summary In the Monte Carlo approach, a large amount of time was spent on many repetitions of an experiment for a rare event. In importance sampling, we skew the distribution of the underlying randomness in our experiment so that the rare event happens more often to observe. We can then use analytical tools to convert our distorted simulation results into an unbiased estimate of the probability of the event in which we are interested. Specifically, we would like to investigate the issue of selecting proposal distributions wisely. In this project, we focus on efficient simulations of modulation performance in digital communications using this intelligent technique so that the simulation time and variance are greatly reduced.
