Title Study of Error Probabilities over Generalized-K Fading Channels in Digital Communications
Summary Wireless transmission is often affected by channel conditions, including fading and shadowing. Nakagami models are commonly used to describe fading, whereas the shadowing effect is represented by the lognormal distribution. As fading and shadowing happen at the same time in wireless communication, it is useful to have a wireless model that can describe the fading channel in
shadowing. The composite model accounting for both fading and shadowing is studied here, based on Nakagami fading and lognormal shadowing. However, this approach does not lead to any simple forms for future performance analysis. In this project, by incorporating the gamma distribution for the average power in the Nakagami fading model, it is possible to obtain an analytically simple form called the generalized-K distribution. The composite form will be used to investigate some common digital systems such as BPSK and BFSK.
