Title Receive Diversity for Wireless Communication
Summary In wireless communications, channel fading causes performance degradation due to significant fluctuations in signal strength. Under deep fade, transmitted symbols are detected incorrectly with high probability. As a result, the average error probability under fading conditions decreases as the reciprocal of the average signal-to-noise (SNR), rather than decaying exponentially with SNR for additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. In this FYP, we will investigate various receive diversity schemes to alleviate error probability. That is, the receiver can obtain multiple copies of the transmitted signal at different time instants or different antenna elements. These copies will help the receiver make a better detection decision. MATLAB simulations are used to examine performance improvements by these diversity-combining schemes.
