Title Application of Signal Space Concept for Digital Communication Simulations
Summary It is well-known that a digital signal can be represented graphically by a signal point in a signal space. Using this concept, it is possible to visualize potential transmitted signals as signal points in a geometric manner. After clarifying definitions of scalar product, signal energy, and distance, we can determine the error probability, in terms of symbol-error rate (SER) or bit-error rate (BER), of digital communication systems. This approach to getting the system performance is quite flexible and straightforward. In this project, we first understand the basic concept and then apply it to a simple one-dimensional signal space. Later, it will be extended to an advanced n-dimensional signal space. MATLAB simulations are used to conveniently examine the performance of these digital communication systems.
