| Title | Measurement of Forces and Velocities Exerted by a PZT Actuator |
| Objective | To develop a method for simultaneosuly measuring the dynamic forces and translational velocities exerted by an extra-precision PZT actuator. |
| Scope | Measuring micro- or nano- scale dynamic displacement or velocity is normally done by a capactive sensor or a laser doppler interferometer. Dynamic forces at sub-micro Newton level, however, are less direct and requires specially designed force transducer to measure. In MAE/NTU, the concept of transduction matrix of electro-mechanical transducers has been developed to model the relationship between the inputs and outputs of a transducer. Once the transducer is properly calibrated, the output forces and motions can be calculated from the probed input voltages and currents. In this project, the transduction matrix of a extra precision pizoceramic actuator will be calibrated first. The forces and velocities applied by the actuator to a test object will then be measured using the transduction matrix. The applicability of the new measurement method will be validated by comparing with results obtained from existing precision apparatuses. |
