| Title | Modeling and Simulation of a tactile sensor array for medical applications |
| Objective | 1. To study and analyze various tactile sensing principles; 2. to simulate a piezo-based miniature tactile sensor array |
| Scope | Background: Surgical manipulators are electro-mechanical arms equipped with sensors and actuators responsible for holding and precisely moving surgical instruments under computer control. There are various types of systems, minimally invasive and non-invasive, which capture the data fed by the surgeon in a unique manner, in real time, translate it to corresponding instrument manipulation. The minimally invasive surgery tools are equipped with remote vision sensors to provide visual feedback from the area of interest. However, vision alone is not sufficient for decisive outcomes in many scenarios and such systems demand remote haptic (tactile and force) feedback to the surgeon, on-line so that an inetractive and safe surgery can be made possible. |
