Title Modeling and testing the kinematics of a motorized base-harness for non-invasive surgery system.
Objective 1. to understand and evaluate the existing design; 2. to model the kinematics for quantitative evaluation of system constraints and optimization of motion schematics.
Scope The FYP project will involve developing of numerical/geometrical models for the mechanics a motorized base-harness as integrated with an existing medical robot. Using a process-sensitive CAD software, such as Pro/E or Solidworks is recommended for modelling. Background: High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) has shown the significant potential use in non-invasive cancer treatment. Ultrasound has the distinct advantage of penetrating tissues and delivering high energy to a deep-seated region with out significantly affecting the intervening tissues. Based on the previous work done in our lab, a motorized end-effector jig system accommodating the probes has been designed and tested.
