DETAILS

Proj No B382
Title PID Control and testing of a base-manipulator for brain surgery
Objective 1. To understand and analyse the design and functionality of an existing 3 DOF base-manipulator; 2. to incorporate PID control for joint axes movement as intended for given application.
Scope BAckground: High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) has shown significant potential for use as a non-invasive cancer treatment modality. It has the distinct advantage of penetrating tissues and delivering high energy to a deep-seated region with out significantly affecting the intervening tissues. Based on the previous work done in our lab, multi-axis, multiprobe manipulator systems have been designed and tested. A current project includes treatment of brain tumors/cancers using HIFU. Our research team has designed and tested sub-systems of the first version of this manipulator. The prospective FYP student will be required to plan and test joint axes movement for intended localization and targeting.
