| Title | Development of a Counterweight System for a Robotic Device |
| Objective | To improve a current 1 DOF motorized counterweight system |
| Scope | A counterweight system has been designed in BioRobotics Lab, with a motor to control the joint torque of a 1 DOF link. The current system is designed to apply the motor torque that counters the static joint torque to help reduce the weight of the link on the user while manipulating the link. The system can be improved by implementing an algorithm that will counter the joint torque during manipulation and hold the link when the user releases it. The student would be required to perform experiments with the current system and analyze the difference between intended motion of the link by the user and free rotation of the link due to gravity. The student will then improve the counterweight system by implementing a motor control algorithm for both intended motion and free rotation of the link. |
