Title Analysis and Design of Mechanism that uses Linear Encoders to Enhance Repeatability in Tendon Sheath Mechanism
Objective To enhance the repeatability of slave mechanism by designing and implementing the housing with linear encoders.
Scope During tendon sheath actuation, there is significant friction present when the tendon slide against the sheath and this result in significant backlash, elongation of tendons and hysteresis. This results in a slacking of the tendon. To improve on the accuracy and repeatability of the actuation, it is proposed to make use of linear encoder and a consistent pulling force to minimise the negative effect of the slacking tendon and improve on the accuracy and repeatability of the tendon sheath actuation. The student has to study on the effect of tendon sheath actuation and ultimately design and implement a system whereby there is significant improvement to the accuracy and repeatability of the tendon sheath actuation
