| Title | Design and Development of Hand Device for Rehabilitation Training |
| Objective | To design bio-mechatronic assisted device for arm rehabilitation to provide repetitive therapy to the motor functions of the upper extremity for people who suffer from (temporary) loss of muscle control in the upper limbs. |
| Scope | This project will first focus on the physiology study and of upper limb (Shoulder & Elbow). Physical constraints such as range of motion (ROM), the number of Degree of freedoms (DOFs), and kinematics & dynamics analysis will be performed sequentially. Secondly, the student will focus on the mechanical design of arm typed exoskeleton device. Actuation, sensory feedback strategy and safety features are then considered. Thirdly, the student needs to get familiar with the motion control with DC motor actuation and feedback system. Finally, the position control system will be developed to achieve optimal function of upper limbs so as to regain independence in their activities of daily living (ADL).The device will assist the patient to do muscle stimulation & mobilization and exercises to specific joints during therapy sessions at clinic or at home to take full advantage of the repetitive therapy. It should have the ability to assist a patient in undertaking arm movements similar to that a physiotherapist (PT) would undertake during treatment. |
