| Title | PID Control of a motorized end-effector for brain surgery |
| Objective | 1. To understand the design and manipulability constraints of an existing end-effector2. to incorporate and test PID control for the above end-effector using linear actuators |
| Scope | This project embarks on the contro and testing of an effector jig for interfacing it to an existing robotic system. This system is developed for non-invasive brain surgery using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) as a treatment modality. Background: HIFU is a non-invasive technique capable of selective localised destruction of tissue volumes within the body. The unique properties of ultrasound to non-invasively target tissue structures presents significant treatment potential. A couple of HIFU end-effector jigs were designed and tested in earlier FYP projects. The prospective FYP student will evaluate these jigs and integrate and test PID control algorithms for accuracy and repeatability of the end-effecor. |
