| Title | Performance Factors of Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) |
| Objective | To investigate the effect of welding parameters (such as electrode size and dimension) on the resulting strength of weld. |
| Scope | Many industries extensively utilize RSW to join metal sheets. A new method which is capable of accurately measuring the variations of both resistance and capacitance during weld forming has been developed in MAE. In this project, the method will be employed to study how the welding process parameters such as forms of electrode tips are correlated to the strength of joining of spot weld. Because the forming process of welds can be monitored in situ by the method, it is expected that the findings from this research will be new and contribute significantly to welding process improvement. The research work will be conducted using a set of testing equipment which has been set up for the development of the method. The student will learn much about dynamic measurement, digital signal processing, and skills in pattern recognition as well as spot welding process. |
