| Title | Development of a Mechanical Impedance Transducer |
| Objective | To develop a transducer which can measure the mechanical impedance at a surface point of a structure. |
| Scope | Mechanical impedance characterizes the dynamic properties of an engineering structure and is the object quantity of dynamic test of structures. In conventional dynamic test, the detection of mechanical impedance rquires a shaker to excite the test structure and two sensors to detect excitation forces and responded motions respectively. In MAE, a novel method was developed to measure this quantity using a single transducer which excites and measures all necessary quantities simultanously. The objective of this projectis to design, build, and test a transducer following the method. Because the measurement method is well established, the development work will be more on proper design of the transducer to maximize sensitivity. The student will learn much about dynamic measurement, digital signal processing, and sensing technology. |
