Day 3: Empowering Entrepreneurs at the Base of the Pyramid

The base of the pyramid refers to the largest but also the poorest socio-economic group.  However, there have been many debates about the size, total income and expenditure of this group of people.  In the context of our discussion, we will define this group of people living below the poverty threshold, i.e. the minimum level of income deemed necessary to achieve an adequate standard of living, within a country.

A BOP business does not just entail selling to the poor but also involves the engagement of the BOP community in the business strategic decision-making process.

Based on the speakers' experience and understanding, the discussion will be geared towards:

  • The identification of various existing business approaches that lead to desireable social changes
  • How we can encourage and promote market-based solutions for the base of the pyramid

A workshop on the above mentioned theme will be conducted in the afternoon from 1.00pm to 5.00pm where participants break into groups to further brainstorm on the topic of the day.  For more details, kindly email Singapore.jwef2011@gmail.com
