Event Info

The Scholarly Communication & Impact seminar aims to give new research students a head start as they begin to engage with their new academic environment. Participants will develop a strong foundational knowledge in the scholarly research and publishing environment which they may be less acquainted with. They will learn the importance and use of scholarly metrics such as citations and impact in publishing, the need to maintain a unique researcher identity, the value of open access to their works, and possible funding requirements they may have to compile such as a research data management plan.

 

By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

1. Find top journals, influential papers and leading authors in their relevant field using scholarly metrics such as citations

2. Illustrate the open access movement and how you can participate

3. Use Library Services & Tools to obtain appropriate Scholarly Resources

4. Demonstrate learnt knowledge with confidence to keep up to date with their relevant field and advance their research career

 

As part of safe distancing measures implemented against the spread of COVID-19, there is limited number of spaces available per session. Please register for a session only if you are able to attend the session.

 

Please note that you are required to bring your own personal device (laptop).

 

(Compulsory for all new PhD and Master by Research students within first year of study)
