Event Info

Framework analysis is a form of thematic analysis that is increasingly used in health research. It allows for ease of use by novice researchers and in multi-disciplinary and mixed-methods research teams. The overall objective of framework analysis is to identify, describe, and interpret key patterns within the topic of interest. It is accomplished through creating an organized analytic structure of themes (i.e., a framework) and applying this framework to the data.

In this workshop, Dr. Laurie Goldsmith will review the five steps in framework analysis (familiarization with the data, identifying a thematic framework, indexing all study data against the framework, charting to summarize the indexed data, and mapping and interpretation of patterns found within the charts). You will also have the opportunity to try out all five steps in framework analysis in hands-on exercises. You will also see examples of all five steps from the literature.

This workshop is intended for participants who already have some introductory understanding of qualitative research. We will provide short background reading to review in advance of the workshop for participants who are new to qualitative research or participants needing refreshing on the principles of qualitative research.
