Bio-ink development for 3D bioprinting applications

Synopsis:
Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is a highly-automated system that facilitates the deposition of biomaterials and cells at pre-defined positions to fabricate complex 3D tissue constructs. The bio-ink used in the bioprinting process can be defined as a printable cell-supporting material and one of the existing challenges in the field of 3D bioprinting is the limited choice of printable bio-inks. In this talk, I will first discuss the limitations of existing bio-inks, highlight the important requirements for bio-inks and present some of my recent works on bio-ink development for 3D bioprinting applications.

About the speaker:
Dr. Ng Wei Long is a Research Assistant Professor at HP-NTU Digital Manufacturing Corporate Lab; his research interests include bio-ink development and fabrication of in-vitro 3D human tissue models. Prior to his current appointment, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Singapore Centre of 3D Printing (SC3DP) and HP-NTU Digital Manufacturing Corporate Lab. Wei Long was awarded the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) and received his Ph.D. from School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), NTU in 2018.
